9 Women

A Series of Portraits, Created from 'Trash'

A personal project, highlighting womankind, recycling and the number 9. Also known as 'papiermache-mosaics', because of the materials used in their creation.
The pictures are in relief and decorated in a repetitive fashion, rather like mosaics, with recycled 'trash.

The choice of women as the central theme, stems from an interest in the versatility, creativity and multi-faceted nature of womankind.

Why 9? The number 9 has magical, meditative and religious qualiities and is seen as a symbol of harmony, inspiration and perfection. In many cultures it is considered sacred, with a reference to eternity.

9 Women was exhibited 01/05/2011 - 31/07/2011 at The Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, in the Netherlands.
